Booking Through Thursday – Multi-tasking

Btt2 Today’s Booking Through Thursday:

Do you do other things while you read? Watch TV? Cook? Brush your teeth? Knit? Or is it a quicker question to ask when you DON’T read? (Please tell me you don’t read while you’re driving.)

As a child, no meal was complete without a book. The Book Accumulator used to agree to buy books for me only if they would fit in his jacket pocket because that was inevitably how they had to be smuggled into restaurants, concerts, anything.

Now, I’m a bit more mono-tasking – or rather, I pretty much only read while in transit (obviously with someone else in charge of the driving!) or curled up on the sofa at home. Sometimes in my special reading armchair.

I will read while cooking if it’s boring – normally my approach to cooking is do other things if it doesn’t need my immediate attention (which means that inevitably rice, pasta and potatoes boil over because I forget to watch them to the boil and then turn down the flame). Risotto is a good case in point. You can’t really leave the kitchen while cooking risotto. Very dull.

I’m still struggling with audiobooks but on a long drive they’re very handy. Or a long walk. I’ve had a number of long walks in London listening to audiobooks. I don’t usually read while walking any more though.

  1. I have almost been hit by cars so many times trying to walk through London by reading that I should probably switch to audio books too! I really like while reading on trains because you can occasionally look up and see a completely different landscape which adds to the whole traveling-feeling I get from reading! Here’s my BTT and I hope you have a good rest of the week 🙂

  2. When I eat alone–which is almost always as I live by myself–I have a book in front of me most of the time. It would seem very odd to me to eat a meal by myself without a book!
