Update after Sydney

A month ago, I wrote this

Looking forward to my 9 days in Sydney. After a really busy couple of months I’m desperate for the holiday (the last three weeks I’ve booked 50, 53 and 56 hours respectively), and I can’t wait for new jeans from Jeans West and ice cream from Gelatissimo and chicken teriyaki udon from Kirrakaze and terrible jokes from my Grandpa and the sand on Manly Beach between my toes. I get what I call “reverse homesickness” when I’m in Sydney because I love it so much that it hurts but I also have to acknowledge that it’s not where my life is.

I’m pleased to report that in those 9 days, I got 3 pairs of jeans from Jeans West (despite the shop at Warringah Mall being shut for refurb and the shop on Market St having mysteriously vanished), had dark chocolate and mango ice cream from Gelatissimo at Manly Wharf, having been walking on the beach with Mini-me. We ate chicken teriyaki udon from Kirrakaze on the Thursday and while Grandpa was a bit short on ghastly jokes, I spent a lot of time at my grandparents’ flat chewing the fat with them.

Sydney is a beautiful wonderful amazing city where I wish I could live, but my life is in the UK now, specifically in SE11 in London (I haven’t totally given up the house-buying dream), and I’m fortunate enough to be able to visit Sydney relatively frequently.

Three of my cousins are over in the UK playing cricket this summer, so they will bring a bit of that essence of home with them when I catch up with them.

  1. It must be so strange to share your family over so many countries. It sounds wonderful, in a way, but you must also miss family and scenery! Good to know you’ll have some family over to visit during the summer 🙂

    1. Thanks – it’s odd to be so spread out but it also means I see bits of my family all of the time. Just saw your news – so exciting!!!!
